We’ve always enjoyed a challenge and since we’re more of a DVD authoring boutique, it suits us to be more involved in the process than just authoring. We like to author the difficult projects. We like to work with the clients that don’t necessarily know what they want the disc to look like. More the role of producer than not in those cases, we find it both rewarding and challenging to be in the position of educating our clients to the possibilities, and helping bring their project to fruition. We enjoy the creative aspect tremendously.  

Brian focuses on the creative aspects like video editing, menu design and preparation as well as the direction of the authoring. Tom’s approach tends to lean toward the production side, video and audio encoding, navigation, authoring and quality control. Along with Brian’s previous audio expertise, they can handle just about any DVD authoring situation. With attention to detail second to none, we are able to provide a superb level of quality and efficiency.
Now that High Definition and Blu Ray are here, we’re beginning to gear up again for the next generation of DVD authoring.

Brian Lee

Brian Lee has had an eye for design and perspective for many years as well as having an ear for music. A graduate of Berklee School of Music in Boston, Brian has been at Gateway since 1992. Working hand in hand, with Chief Engineer Bob Ludwig, Brian learned the art of mastering from 1993 to 1998 and has worked on many mastering projects including: Rush, John Michael Montgomery, Gloria Estefan, Gipsy Kings, Emilio, William Topley, The Bee Gees, Wilco and Billy Bragg, Xscape, Alejandro Fernandez, Janet Jackson, Juliana Hatfield and Kenny Chesney.
Brian saw an opportunity to combine his audio, graphic design and broad technical abilities into one pursuit. Beginning in 1996, Brian started merging his audio mastering and graphic design talents to become Gateway's DVD Designer and Authoring Engineer. He studied the DVD specification and working with Sonic Soultions Beta Software started authoring discs.. Since then the tools have greatly improved as has Brian’s knowledge of the specification and authoring some of the most complicated DVD’s.
Brian's chief responsibilites are DVD design, menu design, video editing, video compositing, 3D modeling/animation and authoring. Select DVD projects include: Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Frank Sinatra, Eric Clapton, Nine Inch Nails, Blue Man Group, Roy Orbison, Paul Simon, Jonatha Brooke and Prince.

Tom Ryan

Authoring engineer Thomas Ryan started at Gateway in 1995.

In 1997 while training as a production engineer, an opening for production coordinator became available. The training served him well giving him unique insight into studio operations and work flow while also making him available to quality control audio during peak production periods.
In 2000 he added DVD coordinator to his responsibilities and ultimately began training as an authoring engineer under the tutelage of Brian Lee in late 2003. Tom is a DVD author and continues as coordinator of our Production and DVD department.
Tom’s selected authoring discography includes; Dire Straits “Brothers in Arms” 20th Anniversary Edition, “Barenaked Ladies are Me” Deluxe Edition, Bruce Springsteen’s Grammy Award winning DVD “Wings For Wheels: The Making of Born to Run” and “Live in Dublin, Bruce Springsteen and the Sessions Band” Loreena McKennitt “Nights from the Alhambra".
