Gateway Mastering Studios Inc. expands DVD Authoring to include DVD-Audio.

Bob Ludwig's Gateway Mastering Studios has announced that it is expanding its DVD operations to include DVD authoring for DVD-Audio. Gateway Mastering currently authors DVD titles within the established DVD-Video and DVD-ROM specifications. The new capability will allow the music Industry to release titles for the upcoming DVD-Audio players. DVD -Audio is the next generation DVD. In addition to the DVD-Audio authoring capabilities, Gateway has expanded its Sonic Solutions editing and recording systems to the new Sonic Studio HD. Sonic's High Density system is the fastest and most powerful system on the market, flexible enough to handle all DVD-Audio and SACD formats. Gateway and Sonic Solutions teamed up in December to create one of the first DVD-Audio discs. The disc was a test of DVD-Audio's, previously unsupported, high sample rate capability of 88.2 kHz.

"This is the first step towards implementing the many features offered by the DVD-Audio Specification", said Scott McConville, DVD Project Manager at Gateway Mastering. "DVD-Audio has the potential to outperform DVD-Video's already extraordinary audio capabilities. We want to offer our clients the ability to release music that sounds as good in the consumer's home as it does in the recording studio or concert hall."

"Our mastering, production and editing studios all use Sonic Studio," said Brian Lee, DVD Authoring/Mastering Engineer. "We've been able to network all the Sonics to our DVD authoring suite and allow seamless workflow. This makes it easy for us to give the audio of a DVD title the attention it deserves. We can master the audio in the proper listening environment of a mastering studio and immediately transfer it to the authoring suite to be included on a DVD audio or DVD video disc".

"Gateway Mastering was one of Sonic's very first Advance Audio Alliance and DVD-Audio Developer Group participants." said Rolf Hartley, Sonic Solutions' Director of Audio Product Sales and Marketing. "As full voting member's of the DVD-Audio Working Group 4, Sonic Solutions formed these groups of mastering industry professionals to focus on the process of creating content for the coming DVD-Audio revolution. Bob Ludwig's group of audio professionals is clearly one of the worlds foremost authorities on High Density Audio, Audio for DVD, and DVD-Audio preparation."
